  Tourism Industry Honors Its Own

Governor John Lynch, along with the NHTC Board Members Maryanne Adams of NH Technical Institute, Pat McDermott of PSNH, and Cultural Resources Commissioner Van McLeod, was on hand to congratulate this year's Industry Award winners (pictured below - click to enlarge for a closer look) at the 32nd Annual Governor's Conference on Tourism, held at the Mount Washington Hotel on May 6th.

Recipients of New Hampshire Travel Council AwardsThe Mildred Beach Travel Person of the Year Award was presented to Rusty McLear, owner of the Inns at Mills Falls, in recognition of his long-lasting and permanent contributions to the industry, and his involvement in his community and the Lakes Region. (Editor's comment: I remember the corner of Routes 3&25 when the old mill was boarded up, and Meredith was a sad and neglected lakefront town. Rusty's vision transformed not only the community, but the entire region. Well done, Mr. McLear! And here's to Kathy Cummings, too!)

The Media Award was given to Maryann Mroczka, Executive Producer of NH Chronicle for her excellence in travel and tourism reporting, as well as for her leadership and support within the industry.

Erica Murphy of the Common Man Family of Restaurants was given the Advertising & Public Relations Award for her contributions to the travel industry.

The Sustainable Business Award was presented to Sarandis Karathanasis on behalf of the Red Blazer Restaurant & Pub in Concord for practicing significant environmental reduction of waste, energy, and water.

Shari Young, GM of the Sheraton Harborside Portsmouth, was on hand to accept the Business Excellence Award on behalf of the hotel, which was honored for its significant growth and success, excellent customer service, and for its strong community and charitable involvement, devoting time and energy in meaningful ways.

And last, but not least, Valerie Drouin of Laconia Savings Bank was honored with the 2008 NH Travel Council Special Recognition Award for her dedication and enthusiasm for the Travel Industry through her commitment to the Laconia Savings Bank Travel Program.

" Since 1981, the New Hampshire Travel Council has recognized and acknowledged those individuals and businesses in the travel and tourism industry that have shown dedication and excellence,” according to Maryanne Adams, Chair of the Awards’ Committee. “We are delighted to honor these individuals for their support of our industry, and pleased to present all award recipients this year with beautiful prints by NH artist Bill Mitchell with calligraphy by RP Hale.”
